Moreton Bay ISP is a for-profit social enterprise which uplifts forgotten communities through the innovative use of technology. The Redlands Coast Southern Islands (previously SMBIs) of Russel, Macleay, Lamb and Karragarra Islands have long suffered from slow (or no) Internet access. This adversely impacts on many areas of Island life. Kids cant study at home, workers can't telecommute and business and tourism suffers. The school misses some lessons because the data is too big to download. All of these result in poor socioeconomic outcomes.Moreton Bay ISP brings fibre speed Internet to the Islands' residents and businesses - and so much more.As a community telco, free Wi-Fi hotspots at the four islands barge and ferry terminals plus some parks means customers can take their unlimited broadband and access it when out and about.Digital support for tourism and high speed pop-up Wi-Fi for events means more people and more jobs on the islands. We create direct and indirect jobs and all of our parent company (Arete Community Telecom) research and development (R&D) will be conducted on the Islands. This brings business tourism as their customers from around the world come to see the tech in action.Other innovations improve community lifestyle through the delivery of health and safety outcomes. 10% of our profits are donated back to local community groups and locals can co-own part of the business which keeps profits local too.
