Who Are We We are the Morgan Duke Conservation Society. We were founded by James Sullivan, who saw what humans left behind while camping in the Hudson River Special Management Area known as Buttermilk as well as the Hudson River Recreation Area. Both areas are located in Lake Luzerne, NY, which is snuggly nestled in the Adirondacks Mountains. And what he saw troubled him. He saw trash, litter, and debris. He saw vandalism on the rocks. He saw vegetation trampled. And he saw work that needed to be done. In 2013, the Morgan Duke Conservation Society was officially founded, becoming a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting the wild areas that James, and so many others, enjoy. And while James helped make the Morgan Duke Conservation Society a reality, our incredible volunteers are the heart of our organization. The constant commitment to conserving our wild spaces from the woods to the beach dunes is what drives us. We all want to be able to see the forest through the trees, without any trash littering our view and our dedicated volunteers are the ones out there making sure that we can do that. What We Do Morgan Duke Conservation Society is committed to aiding and supporting numerous conservation projects in the Adirondack Mountains and other places. There are multiple types of projects that we typically involve ourselves in, but all of them come together to support the larger role of conservation. Many of these projects are carried out in the same Hudson River Recreation Area that first gave James Sullivan the vision for the Morgan Duke Conservation Society. Specifically, some of the projects we work on are:Reforestation, and other replanting projects to replace vegetation harmed by human footfalls;Providing duck nest boxes and other types of birdhouses;Conducting beach cleanups on the sand dunes, shorelines and on the trails in the forests.
