Annually Different Strokes Swim Shop host the Motor City Mile Open Water Swim in Detroit Michigan. All Proceeds raised will be donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This foundation was established in 1997 by one of the world's best cyclists, Lance Armstrong. At age 25, Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer that went on to spread to his lungs, abdomen and brain. Before knowing his own outcome, Lance established the Lance Armstrong Foundation to educate, inform and support other victims and their families. This foundation focuses its time and efforts to survivor services and support, groundbreaking survivorship programs as well as medical and scientific research grants. Since becoming cancer-free, Armstrong has gone on to win the Tour De France 7 consecutive times.Twelve years ago this event started with 30 participants. Last year we had over 500 participants, 150 volunteers and another 800 people watching on the beach. Our event is the biggest open water swim for charity in the Midwest! Our mission, to help continue the fight to beat and survive cancer.
