We carry out emotional education workshops, which aim to teach children aged 10-12 about their emotions and the emotions of others. Alongside facilitators with a strong psychology education and vast teaching experience, the children are educated to understand their minds through aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. Everything taught in the workshop is research driven and individually tailored for school children to understand. Our focus is to engage the children to discuss the topics in the workshop, in order to help them learn the skills presented. The aim of the interactive workshop is to get the children talking about emotions in a way that has never been done before. This will then allow them to develop meta-cognition (thinking about their thinking), which is an essential tool for successful emotion regulation. By teaching these skills at a young age, children will have a far greater opportunity to develop healthy emotion regulation techniques and mitigates the likelihood of developing unhealthy strategies such as repression and self-harm.Long term, we hope that this workshop can provide children with the skills and techniques required to develop resilience towards stressful life events, which in turn reduces the likelihood of developing mental health problems in the future.
