SPECIES: TECTONA GRANDIS (TEAK)Teak (TECTONA GRANDIS) wood has a leather-like smell when it is freshly milled and is particularly valued for its durability & water resistance. Molecular studies show that there are two centers of genetic origin of teak one in India & the other in Myanmar and Laos. Uses: 1] Teak's high oil content, high tensile strength and tight grain make it particularly suitable where weather resistance is desired. Teak is used extensively to make doors & window frames, furniture, columns,beams in homes. It is resistant to termite attacks and damage caused by other insects. 3] It is much preferred for the interiors of Luxury Yachts, Cruisers, Boat decks, Furniture & Floorings at Homes, Offices, Indoor and Outdoor. The teak tends to wear in to the softer 'summer' growth bands first, forming a natural 'non-slip' surface.Specialty: 1] Teak is a golden color with dark brown & gold streaks when freshly cut. Over time, this color lightens as it dries, giving it a regal, aged look. It's this beauty & durability that makes Teak a popular choice for both interior & exterior wood furniture, flooring, paneling, trim and elsewhere. 3] In addition to high strength, teak is also highly resistant to rot, fungi and mildew. It has a relatively low shrinkage ratio which makes it excellent for applications where it undergoes periodic changes.
