The M.S. in Applied Biotechnology is a 100% online degree with courses delivered by seven collaborating UW System campuses, including UW-Madison. Students who choose to apply to the UW-Madison campus receive an M.S. in Applied Biotechnology issued by UW-Madison upon completion of the degree.Launched in 2020, the 31-credit online curriculum was inspired by UW-Madison's successful in-person M.S. in Biotechnology Program (ms-biotech.wisc.edu) developed by the School of Medicine and Public Health in 2002. With a professional network of +400 alumni, the in-person M.S. in Biotechnology Program offers students face-to-face instruction by select faculty from across UW-Madison exclusively paired with industry leaders from the region's commercial biotechnology sector. There are six core courses in the M.S. in Applied Biotechnology, with three separate specialization tracks from which to choose: Quality Assurance and Compliance; Business Management; and, Research & Development. Faculty from UW-Green Bay, UW-Madison, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Whitewater have contributed to develop the online courses for the online M.S. in Applied Biotechnology curriculum. Instructors from all seven participating campuses are responsible for teaching the online courses.
