Established 1950, MSL Ballsbridge Motors has been in operation on the Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, for 70 years. We are proud to be situated on a historic location for the Irish motoring industry. It's a story that began back in 1950 when, on the site that is now Ballsbridge Motors, the first Volkswagen Beetle ever assembled outside of Germany was produced on our grounds. Our current operation is all thanks to the late Stephen O'Flaherty. Mr. O'Flaherty was a pioneer of the Irish motor industry, as he was one of the world's first Volkswagen importers and founder of Ballsbridge Motors' parent organisation, Motor Distributors Ltd. Mr. O'Flaherty procured our premises, which was a former tram depot at Shelbourne Road, complete with tram lines, cobblestones and servicing bays, back in the late 1940's . His inspired decision to import the little known Volkswagen Beetle may have seemed like a huge gamble at that time, but back then few could have predicted that it would go on to become the world's best-selling car. One week after the first consignment of Beetles arrived in Dublin, packaged in creates ready for assembly, the first Beetle ever assembled outside Germany was completed - this car, which took its unique place in international motoring history, can be seen today on exhibition at the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, Germany. Today we stand as one of the largest Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Ireland, hosting over 30 brand new vehicles in our refurbished showrooms.
