Maritime - Rimouski, Quebec, Canada
MTE Instruments (also known as Multi-Électronique) was founded in Rimouski (QC) in 1982 as an electronics repair shop. Its geographic proximity to a few key players in the oceanographic sector made the facility very convenient for these institutions to conduct the prototyping and development of various scientific instruments. As MTE's expertise in this industry grew over the years, the company gradually redirected its efforts away from household electronics and toward the production of robust high-quality oceanographic instrumentation. Thanks to the continued support of its regional clients, namely Fisheries and Oceans Canada as well as a few key academic partners, MTE now proudly offers two core product lines to the worldwide scientific community. In fact, the AURAL autonomous underwater acoustic recorders and the VIKING meteorological and oceanographic buoys have now been distributed to clients throughout six continents. MTE continues to respond to client needs through the advancement of technology in its products. As an example, since early 2019, new algorithms have been in implementation and testing to support marine mammal protection efforts. These new features are scheduled for release in 2020.
