MTE Office Center is a family owned and operated business established in 1935 by A.J. (Jack) and Marie Tarpley. Known then as Maryville Typewriter Exchange (MTE), the Tarpley's serviced typewriters in their second floor repair shop on East Third Street. After several moves the Tarpley's established MTE at its current location in the 1940's. Later that decade, their daughter Betty and her husband Jay Baker joined the operation and eventually purchased the company in 1959. Joining the team during this period were Bryan Alexander and Larry Abbott. Continuing through today, Bryan and Larry's expertise serves an invaluable asset to the organization and its clients.Through the years, MTE broadened their product offering to include office supplies, furniture, printing, and copiers. In 1980, Roger Baker, grandson of the founders, joined the operation and became president of the corporation in 1984. In the 1990's MTE continued to evolve adding computers, printers, and networking to its product mix. In this new century more products are available than ever.
