If 2020 taught us anything, it's that there's more to life than working yourself to death under those damn fluorescent lights.I should know.I used to be one of those people driven to provide for my family, but making more money was costing me too much on a personal level. I'd miss hours of my kids' lives, their first steps, and far too many bedtimes.It wasn't until 2020 when I was laid off from a large company and faced a global pandemic, that I realized what matters most.In February that year, my wife and I had our third daughter. Two months later, I was laid off and given an 8-month severance. Then COVID hit, my kids were home, everything shut down, and I was getting paid for the year to play. It was perfect! I spent the year doing what any wealthy, non-working person would do: I went outside.My wife and I bought a pop-up trailer, and boy, did we put that thing to the test. We went on 18 trips in 2020, seeing deserts, beaches, mountains, waterfalls, snow, and amazing off-road trails. We hiked, sledded, boogie boarded, biked, and made memories. More importantly, I watched our third daughter take her first steps—something I had missed with the first two.As 2021 approached, I upped my efforts to return to the executive table and got increasingly frustrated at the process. To combat those feelings, I kept going camping with my kids. We explored more places, and it always gave me the break I needed to get back to the grind. Finally, after months of rejection and trying to figure out what the hell to do, it dawned on me that my so-called "escape" could be my destiny.At MTL, we curate adventures customized and done for you.
