Our goal is to contribute scholars to Western academia and leaders to serve U.S. Muslim communities. Western academic studies of Islam lack serious attention to Shi'i studies. orientalists rarely studied Shiism, and if they did, they mainly did so through a Sunni lens. The lack of resources demands the establishment of institutions that primarily focus on Shi'i studies in the West. In recent years there has been a rise in the interest in Shi'i Islam both in European and American universities, but there are no graduate majors in Shi'i studies in any American academic institutions. Mufid Academic Seminary is a response to this need.
