Nederlandsch-Indische Bierbrouwerijen was initially established in Medan in 1929, with a brewery in Surabaya. The Company's seat was moved to Surabaya in 1936 and in that same year Heineken NV became a major shareholder. In 1951, the Company’s name was changed to Heineken's Nederlandsch-Indische Bierbrouwerijen Maatschappij NV. In 1972 a new brewery was constructed in Tangerang.After changing its name several times, the Company went public in 1981 and adopted a new name, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia, and moved its seat from Surabaya to Jakarta. Its shares are now traded on the Indonesian Stock Exchange.Today, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk is the leading beer manufacturer in Indonesia. It produces and markets a range of trademark products, including Bir Bintang, Heineken, Guinness, Green Sands, Bintang Zero and Recharge.In early 2010, Asia Pacific Breweries Limited (APB) from Singapore acquired shares held by Heineken to become a major shareholder of the Company. As one of the biggest beer producers in the Asia-Pacific region, the operations of APB are undertaken by 37 breweries in 13 countries from Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, China, Thailand, New Zealand, Laos, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Indonesia and New Caledonia.Following the take over of APB by Heineken in 2012, as of July 16, 2013, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk operates as a subsidiary of Heineken International B.V.
