Arts & Crafts - Panajachel, Solola, Guatemala
We are non-profit organization that supports Maya women in their process of self-discovery and artistic development. Multicolores' programs are transformative- creating long-term, sustainable impacts that strengthen entire communities. We use art as a tool for exploration and expression, igniting the artists' many talents and abilities, and empowering them to become powerful agents of change.Mission: Supporting Maya women artists to improve their quality of life by encouraging the self-discovery of their talents and skills.Vision: To be a symbol of innovation, artistic excellence, and sustainable economic development- and to celebrate the artists' transformational journey.Programs: -Creative and Economic Development: our association is made up of groups of Maya women artists who practice two different contemporary textile art techniques: embroidery and rug-hooking. To support artists, Multicolores offers ongoing creative education opportunities, fair and immediate pay, and access to top-quality international markets.-Leadership: we seeks to address the underrepresentation of women in the social, economic and political structures of Guatemala by strengthening leadership abilities in the artists so that they can become agents of change in their groups, rural communities, and beyond. The Program encourages personal development and self-expression. Additionally, individual counseling sessions support the artists to overcome past traumas and build the self-awareness necessary for leadership. -Healthcare & Well-being: This program offers holistic and sustainable healthcare services to the artists and their loved ones in the areas of family and preventive medicine, and women's health. A co-creation between the artists, Multicolores and ASSADE- it aims to design and construct the ideal health model for all participants. Taking into account biological, cultural and psychosocial aspects, the program uses ancestral Maya healing techniques and Western medicine.
