What is the Municipal Innovators Community (MIC)?The Municipal Innovators Community (MIC) is an idea for a Canadian municipal employee network proposed by the Innovate Barrie division of the City of Barrie. The Innovate Barrie division was part of a 2012 corporate reorganization designed to enable innovation by bringing the Human Resources department and the Information Technology department together under one executive director, Rhonda Bunn. Our team also includes the project team for our ERP project and an Innovation Analyst. Our mission statement:Innovate Barrie leverages people and technology to ignite positive change and inspire progressive solutions. One of our favourite things about working in municipal government is the willingness of municipalities to share their ideas, pilots, projects and programs with other municipalities. We decided to propose MIC as a way to enable the sharing of information about municipal innovation across Canada. Our ObjectivesCreate a secure home for municipal employees to engage in conversations about municipal innovation, share information and ideas, and enable group problem-solving around common municipal challenges.Offer an annual conference on a cost recovery model to bring municipal innovators face to face with their peers on a regular basis.Improve efficiency by enabling a continuous improvement mindset and "repeat after me" culture that would allow innovation to spread from municipality to municipality across Canada, improving and adapting ideas as they are shared. Now, we need you! Over the next few weeks, and at the first conference on September 16 in Barrie, we will be gathering information from you about what you want the MIC to be.COMPLETE OUR ONLINE SURVEY at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MIC_requirementsFor more information, contact info@municipalinnovators.ca.
