The community was initiated by the Israeli government and was established by the Bar Ilan Center for Smart Cities and the Center for Local Government.The community's main purpose is to promote innovation for the future smart cities through integration and cooperation between the private sector in which entrepreneurs operate, the public & government sector and the academic sector, that should provide a soft base for networking and research. Munitech achieves its goals by conducting hackathons, conferences and mutual learning between start-ups, stakeholders and public bodies, promoting technology innovation for a sustainable future urban environment.
