The Museo de Textiles Andinos Bolivianos (MUTAB) is an institution dedicated to the rescue, preservation, study and promotion of the textile art from the Bolivian Andes.The MUTAB was founded in July of 1999 and it is so far the only institution in Bolivia dedicated to the textile art of all the Andean communities. It's permanent exhibit display the entire weaving process in five stages and provides visitors with a voyage throughout the weaving regions, beginning in the department of La Paz, through Oruro, Cochabamba, Norte de Potosí, Chuquisaca and Potosi. As defined by Lonely Planet "Fans of traditional weaving consider this small museum a must-see".The Museum has two main outreach programs called "Sekakuna" and "Kallay Manta".Sekakuna means "Learn" in kallawaya language. This program is devoted to carry out education activities with teachers, children and teenagers from different schools, initially from all over La Paz, to spread the knowledge and value behind weavings and the textile art from the Bolivian Andes.Kallay Manta means "the authentic" in kallawaya language. This program supports the use of traditional weaving techniques by providing assistance to weavers from different communities and through a fair trade shop established in our facilities where visitors can support the artists from the Andes.
