Performing Arts - New York, New York, United States
Music for Life International is a New York based social enterprise founded by the Indian American conductor George Mathew in 2008 to conceive and present musical concerts and related events to promote the awareness of significant international humanitarian crises and other public interest issues in the United States and throughout the world. We take our name from the legendary MUSIC FOR LIFE humanitarian concerts for HIV/AIDS created and led by Leonard Bernstein in 1987 at Carnegie Hall.MFLI has raised over $3.3 million since 2006 with our concerts and other events for humanitarian and other social sector organizations including Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, Acumen, Catholic Medicinal Mission Board, HelpMeSee and others. We have hosted more than 700 musicians including principal artists from over a hundred and fifty of the world's great orchestras, choirs, and chamber ensembles to perform at some of the world's most prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, National Center for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, India Habitat Center among others. Our concerts which have been acclaimed as being of the highest international standard have generated extensive media coverage from around the globe to raise awareness, solidarity, funds and action for some of the great humanitarian crises of our time.
