A competition and a meeting dedicated to worldwide exchange in new opera and music theatre.Presented by the Music Theatre NOW Network in cooperation with International Theatre Institute ITI worldwideand O. Festival for Opera. Music. Theatre. with support of ITI The Netherlands Music Theatre NOW is the only competition for first productions of new works, which were professionally created anywhere in the world. Since 2008 more than 1000 world premieres of new opera and music theatre have been submitted to take part in this unique event that brings together practitioners and presenters. We are looking forward to all forms of professional opera and music theatre which push boundaries. Whether works made by opera and theatre institutions, works created by festivals, works created by individuals: the jury will appreciate all kinds of works, which demonstrate a new development in the genre, be it in score, text and/or staging.The Music Theatre NOW Network of ITI is committed to the artistic development of music theatre worldwide. From experimental projects to productions in opera houses, the network embraces all forms of music theatre including hybrid theatrical forms where music is a crucial and indispensable aspect in the performance. The network takes a special interest in music theatre outside of the Western European tradition and in contemporary work which reflects these other traditions.‘Music Theatre NOW' consists of three elements: an international competitionfor the most interesting music theatre productions of the past years, a meeting where the winning productions are shown on video and discussed. It also involves the creation of an ‘International Web Archive of New Music Theatre'.
