In January of 2021, Kenny Kahn was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Upon learning of his diagnosis, friends and family began to make Kenny music playlists to lift his spirits. Kenny realized that what gave him the greatest relief on his cancer journey was listening to music. Inspired by these acts of love and kindness, and their power to nurture him during a time of great challenge, Kenny and his daughter Rachel formed the non-profit MusicLand Gift Foundation (501(c)(3) organization). MusicLand's vision is to touch the lives and lift the spirits of cancer patients and caregivers with personalized music related experiences. In December of 2021 Musicland will make its first grant to the Integrative Oncology Department at the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC. Integrative Oncology focuses on the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs throughout one's cancer journey. Music therapy is one of the evidence-based, integrative oncology services offered at Levine Cancer Institute.Musicland's grant includes the development of a transformative web app that allows friends and family to share videos, messages and music playlists with those they love who are experiencing cancer treatments. The grant also includes a financial contribution to Integrative Oncology and the donation of headphones and tablets to establish music stations throughout the Levine Cancer Institute.
