Civic & Social Organization - Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
My Brother's Keeper Task Force (d/b/a My Brother's Keeper Cambridge) is committed to disrupting and eradicating the chronic social, mental, economical, and educational barriers for youth, young adults, parents and caregivers.President Obama launched My Brother's Keeper in February 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and to ensure all youth can reach their full potential. As result of the untimely death of Trayvon Martin, Obama responded to the urgent need to create robust and targeted interventions to build safe and supportive communities where boys and young men of color feel valued and have clear pathways to opportunity. Today, the work continues as the MBK Alliance, an initiative of the Obama Foundation. The MBK Cambridge Task Force is aligned with the MBK Alliance and is committed to building an engaged community to influence community-wide policies customized to the uniqueness of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Task Force has adopted a citizen-led strategy to eliminate the gaps faced by boys and young men of color, and to begin to address the emerging needs and necessary supports for young women in the City of Cambridge and the Greater Boston Area. Working across government and academia, public and private sectors, with clergy, families and neighborhood groups, MBK Cambridge aims to create meaningful policy proposals and programming that facilitate the liberation of marginalized people.
