Hospital & Health Care - Yangon, Yangon Region, Myanmar (Burma)
Myanmar Academy of Design (MAD) is set up in 2017 to offer professional design education courses to local Myanmar youths. These courses include architecture, graphic design, and website design, and are facilitated and taught by local and international professionals, including from Singapore, who have had in their own right, accumulated a wealth of experience over the years in both academic fields and practice. The inception of this design academy is to fulfill a burgeoning interest and demand for creative courses here in Myanmar, as well as to fill a gap in all education offerings out there. Based on our research, understanding and exchanges, there are many creative individuals in Myanmar, including Yangon, who are searching for avenues to learn and study design (properly and professionally), to showcase their talent and skills, and of course their design work. These individuals want to pursue creative paths as design professionals and would like a solid foundation, guidance and experience in the form of apprenticeship, internship or mentorship with a creative leader. What makes MAD's offerings unique is that we offer a holistic, specially-curated design curriculum for our students. We have had feedback that design students insofar had been able to learn mostly the technical skills i.e. software skills, but software skills do not make a designer. And students have not had the chance to build a foundation on history, theory, craft, concept and critical thinking, among other subject areas. We believe that design students would benefit from our curriculum that encompasses the broadest spectrum of design subjects to provide an all-rounded education.MAD is committed in providing the best design education that we can possibly offer in grooming the next generation of creative individuals and leaders. After all, creativity breeds innovation, and innovation spurs society to progress especially the socio-cultural aspects.
