My approach to coaching is with constructive feedback and the use of open-ended questions. Constructive feedback is a way to help the writers to think and improve their performance and help set their goals and strategies. By using open-ended questions, it forces the writers to dig deep into the plot and discover their characters have more to say and do. I will also work one-on-one with the writers. All feedback is between the one writer and me. I will not share the feedback with the other writers. This builds trust between the writer and me.Not only will I proofread the writer's work, but I will line-edit, structural edit, and copy-edit their work. In doing so, it will help make sure everything is coming together smoothly. I will do more than look over their work once. I will work side-by-side until the writer feels their work is ready. My primary focus is on Speculative Fiction with a blend of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. I focus on short-story fiction, novellas, and short scripts. As an editor for Coffee House Writers, I have edited and coached multiple genres, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. I focus, not only on the flow of the story but on how they, the writers, can use alternative words to enhance the readers' experience. By using open-ended questions, the writers add more to the story, from body language to describe the environment. I am honest and open with the writers I intern with. I work with them every step of the way during their revision process and answer questions they may have. Plus, my internship as a writer at Coffee House Writers, and prior internships at SNHU Odyssey, and Digital Fox Media allowed me to gain valuable experience in entertainment and nonfiction writing. Along with the skills from my internships, I earned my Associate of Arts in Communications from the University of Phoenix. I received my Bachelor's (focused on fiction and screenwriting), Master's in English and Creative Writing, and MFA from SNHU.
