Architecture & Planning - San Francisco, California, United States
N.ARK.O is a start-up founded by Aboubacar Komara, Kevin Aviles and Reem Makkawi based in San Francisco Bay Area, CA.To learn more about us please read our mission statement below:We are a multicultural and multidisciplinary team with the aim of using our diverse backgrounds in skills, knowledge and experience to engage in a dialogue with the ongoing conversation about diversity in architecture. We believe that architecture is a tool that can be used to promote and establish equality, and our goal is to use that to create architecture that reflects the world. As a team, we believe that impactful architecture is the result of communication and collaboration. We recognize the strength in building a meaningful team and we hope that through cooperation we can create a common ground where people from all walks of life can come together and engage in the design of the future. We believe that the world is going through catalyzing changes. Only through breaking paradigms and traditional ways of thinking can we truly connect with the 21st century global citizen. By addressing challenges as opportunities, we can engage with a new community on each project and propose a meaningful space. The one word that summarizes our work is collaboration. Recently, our work has covered a wide palette of design products: from posters to architectural design of public spaces entered in competitions, to various experimentation with representational techniques done through collaboration with artists. We believe that the collaboration with people from other disciplines adds a unique flavor to the design that have been ignored in our fields. Some previous works include: international architecture competition entries "Pinnochio & Collodi: A Magical Library for Real Children" (Collodi, Italy) and "Playing with Fire: A Watchtower for the 21st Century" (London, UK); local entries: "The Alcove: A Spring Symphony" and design posters (Berkeley, CA).
