Research - Wilsonville, Oregon, United States
As a neutral research facility, the National Carbon Capture Center is finding breakthroughs in next-generation carbon capture technologies. Managed and operated by Southern Company, our world-class research center provides a unique test bed to accelerate the development of technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants - and to promote carbon utilization and direct air capture solutions. Located in Wilsonville, Alabama, our state-of-the-art facilities bridge the gap between laboratory research and large-scale demonstrations. We provide real-world operating conditions and infrastructure, along with a highly trained technical team experienced in evaluating promising carbon capture technologies for scale-up and future commercial deployment. Since our creation by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2009, we have worked with over 30 government, university and research organizations from around the world. Through more than 120,000 hours of testing of 70 technologies, we have already reduced the projected cost of carbon capture by approximately 40%.
