National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources: Polish Genebank (NCPGR) is a research unit in Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute – National Research Institute. NCPGR implements provisions laid down in international treaties ratified by Poland such as: Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) and 2nd Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA). The treaties aim at protection of biodiversity. NCPGR pursues the objectives through coordinating and implementing of the National Crop Plant Genetic Resources Protection Program. The main tasks of the Program include collection of crop and wild plant populations and varieties endangered with genetic erosion, description and evaluation of collected materials and keeping them in viable state and genetic purity.
