The National Institute of Design, Amravati is established in September 2015 as an autonomous Institute under the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It is situated temporarily in Acharya Nagarjuna University on Guntur - Vijayawada highway (NH 16) as a transit campus before moving to permanent campus to come up in 50 acres site in ‘Amaravati', new Capital City of Andhra Pradesh.It is the first NID to set up in accordance with the National Design Policy, approved by Parliament in 2007 for establishing four new NID's across the country after the five decades of the existence of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
