NIST is an NAAC (UGC) Grade 'A' accredited, NBA accredited, world-class science and technology institution known for its academic excellence in India and abroad since 1996.It was established in the year 1996 by a group of academicians and technocrats educated in the top Institutes of India and abroad. It is the first NRI educational venture in the state of Odisha and first engineering college under Berhampur University. The primary objective of the founders was to promote NIST as a center of academic excellence and research in the field of science and technology. Over the years, NIST has produced 4 BOYSCAST Faculty Scholars and 3 FullBright Scholars. Its faculty have won the Samant Chandrasekhar Young Scientist Award and URSI Young Scientist Award. Its faculty have also bagged over 25 post-doctorate scholarships. Its faculty, most of which are alumni of IIT's, IISc, NIT, ISI and other top-notch universities, have published 250 research papers for the most refereed journals of the world.NIST has been ranked #28 in India by DataQuest - CMRSurvey Report 2013-2014. It has also been Accredited Grade 'A' with a high score of 3.22 by NAAC (UGC). The institution has been conferred with eINDIA 2013 Award under the category of "Best Teaching Learning Institute". Besides, it has been felicitated for being the "Best Technical Institute in R & D Activities".Located in the foothills of serene Palur Hills in Southern Odisha, just 12 kms away from Berhampur (the most happening city of the region), NIST is a brilliantly landscaped campus known for its natural beauty and architectural marvels. The campus is a natural world onto itself.
