NSS IIT Bombay is the IIT Bombay chapter of National Service Scheme institutionalized by Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as part of its public service initiatives. The aim being to inculcate social welfare thoughts in students and undertake actions reflecting the same.NSS IIT Bombay carries out its activities with the help of more than 250 student volunteers under four departments viz. Educational Outreach, Events, Green campus and VikasEducational Outreach helps NGOs in educating underprivileged children. Freshmen volunteers go to NGO centers on a daily basis and teach kids to help them build a brighter futureEvents is the most versatile department as far as serving the society is concerned. It has activities ranging from Cloth Collection Campaign to solving the problem of food wastage in hostels to working for the welfare of construction workers on campusGreen Campus focuses on conserving greenery of the institute which is under a constant threat from the ever increasing infrastructural needs. The department maintains its own nursery through which it carries out plantation and protection of saplingsVikas works on ideation and realization of sustainable ideas. It works on ideas for the betterment of society and environment. Sensitization on different issues of society and addressing them through innovative solutions is the prime focus of the department
