Music - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
The National Youth Choir of Australia (NYCA) was founded in 1995 with the aim of bringing together Australia's best young adult singers to perform choral music of an exceptional standard. NYCA exists to inspire and empower young singers to develop a commitment to music and the highest standards of vocal ensemble performance. We aim to provide a choral experience that is a powerful positive cultural force where professional ensemble singers are acknowledged and respected alongside their instrumental colleagues. We approach each year with the ambition to create an experience for participants and audience that is transforming, exhilarating, challenging and incredibly satisfying.NYCA is a nationally-auditioned SATB chamber choir for singers aged 18-26. Australia's only truly national youth choir, it draws its membership from all States and Territories. NYCA offers a level of excellence and professionalism bringing together like-minded young singers from all around Australia. Under NYCA's Artistic Director, Noel Ancell OAM, each year we hold an intensive 9-Day workshop and rehearsal program, culminating in a series of concerts. In addition to the main choral workshop program, supplementary choral conductor workshops and vocal health masterclasses are given by NYCA Directors and guest conductors who are nationally and internationally recognised choral conductors. Supplementary workshops are open to invited participants and/or the public where possible. In addition, a local youth choir or choirs are invited to participate in a special workshop to join NYCA for part of its final performance. This activity is part of NYCA's aim to build bridges with existing youth choirs and foster links with potential future members. Auditions are held each November for places in the choir for the following year. The National Youth Choir of Australia is a not for profit company and holds DGR status as it operates as a result of donations, grants and kind support from our many friends and supporters.
