NC State College Advising Corps Adviser at Ayden-Grifton High School
The NC State College Advising Corps places recent NC State graduates as full-time college advisers in some of North Carolina's rural underserved high schools. Many of them being first-generation students themselves, our advisers provide the encouragement and advising needed to navigate the college admissions process. Advisers work to create a college-going culture within the high schools they serve by becoming a part of the school's community. By collaborating with teachers and administrators, our advisers tie college-going into the life of a school. Advisers also assist existing high school counseling staff, thereby reaching more students. From college admissions to SAT/ACT waivers and assisting with FAFSA applications, our advisers become experts on college access. Following a near-peer model, being close in age and backgrounds to the students they work with, the can connect and relate well to students.
