Childhood Dementia (Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis, or NCL) is a metabolic disease that has hardly been researched to date. It is incurable, progresses inexorably and leads to early death. Affected children go blind, suffer from epilepsy and increasingly lose their cognitive and motor skills until they die - usually before the age of 30. Since our establishment in 2002, we as the non-profit NCL Foundation have been committed to promoting national and international research in order to give children affected by NCL a chance of finding therapies and cures that have been lacking up to now. To this end, we initiate, finance and support research projects and promote the formation of a worldwide NCL network. In addition, we provide education and training for physicians, students and school classes.
