The NEC metric provides a simple answer to a complex question : ''to what extend does a product / service / company / fund / index contribute to the ongoing ecological transition ?''.Based on physical units, it considers various environmental issues such as climate change, water consumption, air quality, impact on biodiversity, natural resources and waste, where relevant, in a life-cycle approach by looking at these impacts across value chains. The outcome of this approach is a single figure per company, based on its different underlying activities, which ranges from -100% for the most damaging activities, to +100% for activities with a strong positive net environmental impact which provide solutions to accelerate the transition. The NEC can be applied to all industries and funding types, on a global basis.
