For over five decades our grapes have been used in the production of Cockburn's Port and, from 2008 on, Simiyngton's. In 2004, the Negreiros family decided to renovate the Quinta das Amendoeiras' adega. While preserving the best of tradition, such as treading the grapes in granite lagares, modern technology, such as temperature control during fermentation, was introduced.From 2004 on, we began selling just half of the fifty tones of grapes produced every year. The other half was used to produce wine in the Quinta. Only two thirds of these twenty five tones of grapes are actually used in the production of ‘Negreiros', which means that ‘Negreiros' red wine is made with the best two thirds of the best half of the grapes grown within the boundaries of the best wine region of Portugal – the ‘Douro Superior'.
