Neighbourhood Midwives is founded on three principles:Continuity of Carer – Midwife Led care is based on continuity. Our Midwives caseload a small portion of clients so that they have more time to spend with their clients. Continuity of carer has been shown by research to increase your satisfaction levels as well as make your pregnancy safer for you and your baby (Dowswell et al, 2011).Convenience – Your care when and where you want. More relaxed appointments with no less than a half hour to discuss the issues you want covered. We work in partnership, with you at the centre of your care. Our service strives to maintain this philosophy of Midwifery care (An Bord Altranais, 2010).Confidence in Midwife Led Birth - Scientific research shows evidence that Midwife Led care leads to more vaginal births without instruments, more intact perineums, a higher chance of staying pregnant until 24 weeks, faster discharge from the hospital and better chances of successfully breastfeeding (Hatem et al, 2009).
