NWFS organises training and development events, these events give women the opportunity to network, to learn new skills, to mix with role models from all areas across the service. We deliver practical workshops and seminars that are relevant, enhancing skills to improve performance back in the workplace. Delegates come away from our events energised, inspired and motivated but more importantly able to contribute to organisational performance. We provide telephone and email support, and access to a network of trained mentors. This provides an opportunity to make a direct impact on the recruitment, promotion and retention of women within the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS).NWFS maintains a database of contacts across the FRS from all roles, this provides a useful communication tool for FRS, both for gathering and disseminating information. These included questions about station facilities to women in specialist roles, to maternity leave, PPE to work-life balance.NWFS provides information and support to women who are contemplating a career in the FRS; has links with other women’s professional networks, and promotes the FRS as employer of choice. In addition to a number of trained and experienced coaches, we are currently training additional members of our team in coaching skills and by mid 2011, we hope to have a coaching scheme established.
