NeuraStasis was formed out of the medical device innovation program at the Texas Medical Center with the ultimate vision of delaying brain damage allowing more people to walk out of the hospital without disability. Ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage in the blood vessels supplying the brain. Without blood flow, a deficit of nutrients builds up in tissue progressively, leading to an expanding area of irreparable damage. Treatment is a race against time. Every minute of delay before treatment could mean the difference between a return to normal life or a lifetime of disability.NeuraStasis is developing a pause button for stroke patients. The proprietary noninvasive technology activates the body's innate oxygen-preserving and anti-inflammatory reflexes to preserve brain tissue, giving providers more time to act.
