New Georges, founded in New York City in 1992, is a strategically small theater company with a national reputation as a vigorous, pivotal home for adventurous women and gender-expansive theater artists and their exuberantly theatrical new plays. We are a risk-taker, cultivating a nimble, artist-driven production environment to support unusual plays, committing to projects early in their development, equipping them with processes rooted in strong collaborations, and providing steady artistic support; a hub, serving a 200-member artist community and promoting experimentation in The Room, our workspace for women theater artists, every day of the year; and a launchpad, having brought forth an unprecedented generation of women artists. We serve the largest ongoing working community of women theater artists in New York City, currently more than 200 playwrights, directors, actors and designers. Community, flexibility and risk-taking are our essential values; they go hand in hand.New Georges has premiered 44 new full-length plays and produced 12 festivals of new work; hundreds of original works have passed through The Room on their way to venues in New York City and beyond. The influx of New Georges artists into the field as a whole over the last 25 years has had marked impact on the representation of women nationwide in theater, film, television and arts education.
