New Jersey Appleseed Public Interest Law Center is a non-partisan, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. For over 10 years, we've striven to correct systemic problems that are at the root of injustice in our state. We choose our areas of focus based on the changing needs of the public. Today, we are engaged in important work in several areas: - Election process reform - Health care reform - Community and environmental health - Corporate and government accountability Our legal capacity is at the core of our activities, but our main goal is to arrive at solutions. So, we use a multidisciplinary approach to advance our mission. On any given project, we may use some or all of the following tools: - Litigation, representation, and other forms of legal advocacy - Legislative initiatives - Public outreach & forums - Research - Publications - Partnering with community groups - Joint efforts with other state and national organizations Using all of our resources, we're able to bring considerable pressure to bear in order to drive positive change on major public issues. About Appleseed We are affiliated with the national Appleseed organization, one of the nation's largest legal pro bono networks. The national Appleseed works at the local level by establishing independent public interest law centers to identify and address issues unique to each community, and by attracting existing public interest law centers to broaden the reach and resources of the Appleseed network. The national Appleseed organizes and supports the local Appleseed Law Centers, each of which is independently run. As a network of Law Centers actively sharing knowledge and resources, Appleseed is a powerful force for the public good across the country.
