Grocery - Santa Cruz, CA, US
For more than 36 years, New Leaf Community Markets has been making important choices that nourish and sustain our Central Coast communities. We opened our doors as a small cooperative in 1985 on the Westside of Santa Cruz. Now, 5 community-hub grocery stores later, we remain true to our progressive roots and good for the community ethos. We know that the well-being of our customers, staff and community starts with sustainable, locally produced food. Protecting and bettering our environment depends on the same. Farm-to-table all the way. That's why you'll find so much California-grown natural, organic food sustainably produced by farmers, ranchers and fishers in our stores. Much of it from within 100 miles! That's how local local is for us.From day one, we've partnered with open-minded producers who care as deeply about our people, planet and social justice as we do. It's important for us to foster local entrepreneurship whenever we can. We know that doing that supports and grows our diverse regional food economy. In 2013, we proudly became California's first B Corporation grocer. This means that we pay forward 10% of our after-tax profit to local nonprofits we believe in and align with. Our progressive and sustainable practices also include above-and-beyond staff benefits. Store-wide eco-friendly operational choices lessen our carbon footprint. We are always learning and improving.
