New Spirit Community Church is a community where we value our relationships with one another, with the world around us and with the Divine of our understanding, as expressed through ancient and modern prophets, and evident especially in the life and teachings of Jesus. We are committed to the liberation of all people. Our faith equips us to face our personal lives more fully and to engage society for change. We decry the sins of homophobia, sexism, racism, classism, nationalism – anything that dehumanizes other people. At New Spirit Church, social justice is our principal spiritual practice, a common goal that encompasses the different theological and political beliefs of individuals in our community. New Spirit is a fusion of three denominations: The United Church of Christ, with its emphasis on social justice. The Metropolitan Community Churches, with its historic roots in the gay and lesbian liberation movement, and its record of activism, advocacy and inclusion of people with HIV/AIDS. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with its emphasis on community, on faith, reason and the spiritual practice of gathering weekly at the communion table.
