NZGCF is a national not-for-profit organisation and is reliant on grants and donations from the New Zealand public including: • Community events held nationwide • NZGCF fundraising initiatives • Trusts and Foundations • Corporate Partners NZGCF Mission Our mission is to educate women and the wider community about the signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancer so that early detection can help save lives. NZGCF also supports women who are affected by gynaecological cancer in all stages of their journey. Our symbol is the ‘teal ribbon', the international symbol of gynaecological cancers. February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and September is International Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, making these two months the Foundation's major fundraising months. Our Key Messages: The FIVE gynaecological cancers are endometrial, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal Early detection significantly increases the chances of surviving these cancers Keeping up to date with your cervical smear tests is the best way of protecting yourself against cervical cancer. However, there are no screening tests for the other gynae cancers so it is important to learn the signs and symptoms The symptoms of gynae cancers differ, but anything out of the ordinary and persistent should be discussed with your doctor In New Zealand, three women are diagnosed and one woman dies every day from a gynaecological cancer All information we provide are from reliable and credible sources WHY? Gynaecological cancers make up approximately 10% of all cancer cases and cancer deaths in New Zealand. There are five main forms - ovarian, cervical, endometrial (or uterine), vaginal, and vulval. Every year approximately 1000 women are diagnosed with 1 of the 5 and of this approximately 400 women die every year.
