The BioHeritage National Science Challenge brings together top scientists from around the country to tackle the most urgent problems facing Aotearoa's natural and primary production environments. This work will help us to understand what species we have, and find ways to deal with environmental threats including pest animals and insects, weeds, pathogens and climate change.BioHeritage co-ordinates 18 collaborative, multi-disciplinary projects, harnessing the research of scientists from numerous organisations including all of Aotearoa's universities and many Crown Research Institutes. Iwi, government and non-government organisations, private citizens and regional councils are all working with us. This inclusive approach breaks down barriers between organisations and individual scientists, generating synergies that are leading to world-leading scientific advances.Aotearoa's future relies on its environment. The BioHeritage Challenge will ensure we have the knowledge, tools and technologies to better protect our primary production-based economy, precious native flora and fauna, and unique environments.BioHeritage is one of 11 National Science Challenges established by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment in 2014 to focus science investment on issues that matter to all New Zealanders.
