We are in 1977 on Spring Mountain, St. Helena, our journey begins.The pioneering quest for a unique and desirable style, led Peter Newton and his wife Su Hua to establish Newton Vineyard. Purity and structure, precision and subtilty; only the mountain's terroir could conjure this emotive style: "The route for excellence is to find what is best in what the land can give you" (Su Hua). Establishing the winery on Spring Mountain was therefore an obvious choice, but was also daring and audacious. Determination brought Peter & Su Hua's vision to life, delivering complex and elegant wines expressed across a patchwork of distinctive varietals.Their pioneering approach did not stop here. Overcoming the topography challenges, the winery and caves have been perfectly integrated into the mountain, showcasing our deep respect for the surrounding environment. By farming a small proportion of the domain, our viticulture follows Su Hua's philosophy: "if you look after nature, nature will look after you". We capture the essence of what Mother Nature offers with unequalled precision and zealous care. And what better example embodies these values other than Newton's Unfiltered Wines?Peter Newton's avant-gardist choices, his quest for a style and his respect for nature is embodied into this man's ethos; Nature by Design, a founding idea. Viticulture at Newton is akin to horticulture and we listen to each block to understand the unique message they transmit. As our winemaker Alberto Bianchi would say: "we are shepherds of this process, and we convey the messages".
