The founding member of Nexus Medical, Mike Emmerich has been involved in Emergency Medicine, Fire and Rescue for over 27 years. The last 20 years have encompassed teaching and consulting at various levels of Emergency Medicine and Rescue. Through his business associations with Mines Rescue Services, the Chamber of Mines and leading mining houses, Mike identified a need to provide a specific emergency care consultancy geared to the unique needs of the Mining and other heavy industries in Africa, and Nexus Medical was established in 1998. Sylvain Saluseke has been partnered with Nexus since 1999 and his knowledge of the continent has been immeasurable Nexus Medical is also involved in First Aid and Fire Training, as well as various community training programmes, and is affiliated to various contributing associations, corporations and individuals who are consulted or contracted according to the needs of our clients. Nexus Medical undertakes various projects for our clients in Africa which include; site and hospital assessments, emergency response planning and the drafting of such documents and the provision of medical and other ancillary equipment. We have undertaken various projects for our clients, in obtaining a foothold in an African country for medical or other service delivery projects. Nexus has operated in SA, The DRC, Zambia, Tanzania, Gabon and Senegal, and then as a third party consultant in at least 10 other countries. As a company we have drafted procedures, standards, operating procedures on confined space, emergency response, patient care, patient movement, disaster medicine and infection and vector control. We have the ability to work with persons at various skill, academic and cultural levels. Mike & Sylvain have spent the past 16 years working in over 25 countries in Africa. Mike has been based in Senegal, for the last 2.5 years setting up work a Clinic, Medical and ERT coverage for a large mining project, but is now based in SA.
