Since opening its doors in 1967 in Welland and expanding into other parts of Niagara, Niagara College has grown to become a leader in education and training and one of the most enterprising colleges in Canada. Niagara College is also recognized as a leader in student satisfaction. According to annual Key Performance Indicator surveys mandated by the province of Ontario, Niagara College ranked number one among all Ontario colleges in student satisfaction for eight of the last ten years. The survey also gave Niagara College high marks in graduate employment rate, graduate satisfaction and employer satisfaction. Niagara College has an enrolment of more than 9,000 full-time students and more than 15,000 Continuing Education registrants annually. The College offers more than 100 post-secondary diploma and post-graduate certificate programs, skills and apprenticeship training programs and two bachelors degree programs: International Commerce and Global Development and Hospitality Operations Management. Niagara College operates from three campus locations. The Welland Campus, set on 100 acres of green space, is home to programs in technology, skilled trades, broadcasting, communications, health and community, policing and public safety, and automotive. The Welland Campus is also home to the Niagara Centre YMCA, the Childrens Safety Village, a dental clinic and a Niagara Regional Police training centre. The Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus provides state-of-the-art facilities and living labs for our environmental, horticulture, hospitality and tourism, and business programs. The campus also provides students with state-of-the-art learning environments and a range of practical experiences through learning enterprises: Benchmark Restaurant, Niagara College Greenhouse, Niagara Waters Spa, the Wine Visitor + Education Centre, the award-winning Niagara College Teaching Winery, the first commercial teaching winery in Canada and Canadas first teaching brewery. The Maid of the Mist Campus in Niagara Falls serves as a dedicated industry development and training resource for Niagaras important hospitality and tourism sector. In summer 2014, the college is embarking on another redevelopment phase, which will include new athletic facilities in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a building for the Industry Innovation Centre in Welland, and an update of the student commons on both campuses. Niagara Research, the Research and Innovation arm of Niagara College, continues to have considerable success in responding to industry needs. Over the past four years (2011-14), Niagara Research has accumulated a budget of more than $16.5M in total to fund, per year, 50-85 projects with industry involving 50-100+ faculty/staff and 800-1,300 students (increasing, year over year). The division is successfully managing two NSERC CCI-IE grants, received several NSERC and CFI grants, and secured an NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges in Precision Agriculture and Environmental Technologies. Over the past three years, Niagara Research has also held more than $2.5M of FedDev funding, plus at least as much in industry match, and was recently awarded NSERC Technology Access Centre funding in Advanced Manufacturing.
