Mental Health Care - Douglasville, Georgia, United States
Nichols Center, Inc. was founded in 2013 in response to the growing need for awareness and a family based approach to the epidemic of substance abuse and addiction in Douglas County. We believe that substance abuse and recovery affect all members of the family and the community as a whole. We understand substance abuse to be a mental health disorder and while the individual in addiction may require specialized care or treatment, the family unit also needs support, education, and resources to be returned to a position of strength as a contributing unit in our society. Services:Our 501 (c) 3 focuses on providing wrap around services for the person in addiction and connecting the family to additional resources to alleviate compounded issues or crisis for the addiction cycle. • We facilitate community events and create programs to educate and empower families affected by substance abuse and addiction. • We have provide supplemental supports for the local Felony Drug Court programs and DUI and Misdemeanor Accountability Courts and Magistrate Court on individual basis through our Treatment Scholarship Program and Mental Health Medication Program.• Built partnerships with the Douglas County Homeless Coalition and founded the monthly outreach program to build support for our homeless as a way to identify homeless individuals and facilitate reunification back to sustainability for those willing and able. • Established partnerships with other nonprofits in Douglas County that educate and empower families in recovery such as the Bill Shepherd Tribute Foundation and Families against Drugs. • We provided spaces for 12 step programs and host annual recovery related events celebrating families in recovery such as the Escape Addiction 5K, Knocking Addiction out of the Park Softball tournament, Sober and Strong racing team, Cookies and Cocoa with Santa, and the Overdose Awareness Day Balloon Symposium.
