We are a member of the NIHR MedTech and In vitro diagnostics Co-operative (MIC) network and a partnership between Newcastle University and Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Additional partners include the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria, LifeArc and our insight panel for patients, public and carers. We aim to ensure that better diagnostics are delivered more quickly for the benefit of patients. Our centre of expertise supports diagnostics developers. We work collaboratively with these developers to generate a portfolio of evidence that supports the adoption and use of their diagnostics in healthcare. We use robust qualitative and quantitative methods to offer work packages within three main evidence areas: Early-stage evidence development including care pathway analysis Accuracy and utility evidence development Health economics evidence development We focus on tests that tackle unmet needs and which build on our expertise in: Ageing and long-term chronic conditions Infection Stratified medicine We support diagnostics at Technology Readiness Level 3-7. We can signpost developers to other members of our network if they are at a different stage. If developers plan to submit a grant application, we can be a part of that application as a co-applicant, collaborator, or sub-contractor.
