Amy Rivera was born with primary lymphedema. Her life was anything but easy. Due to the lack of education on the lymphatic system, Amy was misdiagnosed for over 30 years, leaving her disabled. Amy truly thought she was the only one who had this disease until 2013.Amy realized that this community needed a voice. This became her focus for founding Ninjas Fighting Lymphedema While other organizations focused on research and smaller grant programs, Amy founded NFLF with a focus on empowering patients from a patient's perspective. She designed each of NFLF's resources to help patients be a part of the community through unique programs, education, and services. The organization is committed to helping patients, schools, hospitals, other nonprofits, and entire communities to better understand the lymphedema epidemic and how they can take a more active role in creating awareness. Our vision is to bring awareness about the prevalence and devastating effects of lymphedema in our communities and inspire patients to stay compliant with treatments offered. Our goal is to promote and create a lifestyle that focuses on living a positive life with lymphedema. Our mission is to educate our lymphatic community and medical professionals concerning the importance of early diagnosis, compliance, and resources needed to reduce the medical costs epidemic. Using our proactive approach, in combination with our compliance programs and partnerships, we will provide the tools and resources necessary to promote a healthy lymphatic lifestyle and reduce the financial burden of lymphedema.
