The Nooksack Indian Tribe is a federally recognized tribe under the Point Elliott treaty of 1855. Its land base is estimated to be 444.53, and its enrollment is approximately 2000. The Nooksack Indian Tribe is located 17 miles east of Bellingham Washington in the small town of Deming, WA - population 210.The Tribe's governing body consists of 8 elected officials. One Chairman, one Vice-Chairman, one Treasurer, one Secretary and four Council members. Each official is elected by all eligible voters (18 or older) of the Nooksack Tribe. Today the Nooksack Indian Tribe is the largest employer in eastern Whatcom County. Nooksack Tribal Business entities include Nooksack Indian Tribe Administration, Nooksack Market Centre, Nooksack River Casino, Nooksack Northwood Casino, and Nooksack Construction Company. The Nooksack Indian Tribe Administration consists of the following departments: Accounting, Administration, Child Support Culture, Enforcement, Counseling Center, Dental Clinic, Education Department, Elders Program, Genesis II, Grant Department, House of Children (Deming/Everson), Health Center, Social Services, Housing, Law Enforcement, Legel/Enrollment, Natural Resources, Planning, TANF (Deming/Bellingham/Skagit), Tribal Council, Tribal Works, and Youth & Family Services.
