NFDS has been operating since 1982. In 1991 it was incorporated as a fully independent Norwegian Public Company. Our head office is in Trondheim, Norway, we have an African Office in Gaborone, Botswana and a satellite office in Mozambique. The offices are run by a core team of dedicated technical and administrative personnel. NFDS also has staff deployed in various countries on long-term projects and a range of associated consultants and institutional partners that work with us on specific projects.NFDS offers a variety of services related to fisheries, natural resource management and vessel operations. Our experience is based on a long history of project management and implementation, mainly in the developing world. Our expertise is anchored in the Norwegian philosophy of fisheries and natural resource management where sustainable utilisation of the resource and protection of the environment are vital elements of a holistic approach to ocean governance. NFDS applies a comprehensive project and personnel management system based on Det Norske Veritas (DNV) certification and the EN ISO 9001 standard. Our quality assurance system has been implemented successfully and to a high standard in all our projects.NFDS has gained a name for quality fisheries work in developing country situations. The experience of the company started in the maritime and vessel management field but over the last decades has expanded into fisheries management, MCS, IUU fishing research, fisheries research and overall governance.NFDS has worked extensively with governments and inter-governmental bodies and has a solid understanding of many of the issues that this work will need to cover. NFDS has experience across Africa, within individual countries, African Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMO) and Regional Fisheries Bodies (RFB) as well as the Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
